Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey visited several parts of the city on Tuesday, to inspect the progress of various development works.At Rajaji Park in Hampankatta, the commissioner inspected the food stall area and open air theatre. He directed officials to explore the possibility of providing high-quality sound and lighting systems, along with a well-equipped stage, to facilitate cultural programmes at the amphitheatre every week.He also instructed officials to examine the feasibility of fixing a fee for the maintenance and use of the open air theatre and its surrounding areas.Later, at Souhardha Park in Pandeshwar, the commissioner reviewed the park’s maintenance and development, and directed officials to take necessary measures for its improvement.He subsequently inspected the railway crossing in Pandeshwar along with railway officials. He directed officials to examine the feasibility of constructing a railway overbridge at the location to ease traffic movement. He also instructed them to write to the railway department regarding the proposal to raise the level of the road and convene a meeting to discuss the issue.Railway officials informed the commissioner that an automatic signalling system would be installed at the location at an estimated cost of around Rs 2.1 crore.The commissioner then visited the site of the civic workers’ housing project being constructed under the Paurakarmika Gruhabhagya Yojana at Mahakalipadpu. He directed officials to ensure that the limited space at the construction site does not cause any inconvenience, and that quality houses be built for civic workers.Representatives of the civic workers’ union also brought to his notice the deteriorating condition of the roof of the nearby Dr BR Ambedkar Community Hall. The commissioner directed officials to look into the issue and take steps to provide a permanent solution.He later visited Kadri Park and the fountain area for an on-site inspection. He directed officials to expedite the redevelopment of the fountain after the monsoon, with high-quality infrastructure, and develop it as a tourism destination. He instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive blueprint for the project, and present it before the Karnataka Tourism Board.Railway officials and officers from the engineering division of the Mangaluru City Corporation were present during the inspection.
