Lucknow: BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday expelled senior functionary and former minister Anant Kumar Mishra, alias Antu Mishra, from the party with immediate effect. In a post on X, she said Mishra was being expelled for his anti-party activities.“Now that the electoral atmosphere in UP has become quite volatile, the message and appeal to the people at all levels of the party is to remain vigilant against all kinds of tactics by opponents and devote themselves with complete honesty and loyalty to making the party’s Ambedkarite mission a success in the upcoming assembly elections in the state,” said the BSP chief.Antu is a relative of BSP national general secretary SC Mishra, whom Akash Anand, at his public meeting in Hathras on Aug 10, had acknowledged for standing with the party leadership through thick and thin.This is the third major expulsion from the party after former Rajya Sabha MP and party national convener Akash Anand’s father-in-law Ashok Siddharth and national coordinator Randhir Singh Beniwal were expelled on Aug 2.During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, speculation was rife that Mishra would join the BJP. However, it did not happen then.Mishra was the health minister in the BSP govt from 2007 until 2011. He resigned from the ministerial post in April 2011, following the murder of Lucknow chief medical officer (family planning) Dr BP Singh on April 2, 2011.His role in the multi-crore NRHM scam in the state is under investigation.
