Chennai: A burglary attempt at a Bank of India branch in West Mambalam was failed in the early hours of Friday as a masked burglar could not to break open the safe, despite spending about four hours inside the bank.Saraswathi, a cleaner at the Bank of India branch on Postal Colony Second Street in West Mambalam, came to the bank on Friday morning and found the shutter lock broken and open. When she went inside, she saw documents scattered everywhere and torn into pieces.

On information, the bank’s administrative manager Tamilmathi inspected the premises and found that no valuables had been stolen. She then lodged a complaint at the Ashok Nagar police station.Police reviewed CCTV footage from the bank and saw a masked burglar walking around with a torchlight. The footage showed he entered every room, including the cashier’s room, searching for money.He also tried to break into the locker containing jewellery and money. The burglar, who was inside the bank from midnight to early morning, was unable to break open the locker. Unable to find any money, he tore up documents before fleeing.Ashok Nagar police are searching for the burglar based on the CCTV footage.
