Nagpur: Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday added to the speculations around CM Devendra Fadnavis‘ political future, saying he would be proud to see a Marathi manoos become Prime Minister in place of Narendra Modi and even a “prospective candidate”, Union minister Amit Shah.On Sunday, Devendra Fadnavis’ uncle Balasaheb Fadnavis had said he sees potential in his nephew to become Prime Minister.“It is natural for relatives, brothers and uncles to feel that. Right now there are two people from Gujarat who are deciding what will happen to someone tomorrow. But if Devendra ji becomes PM now, replacing Modi, we Marathi people will be very happy. We wish him well, and Maharashtra should develop under him as PM.”He questioned BJP‘s current reliance on a “narrow base” of support for Modi and Shah. “What kind of leadership will emerge tomorrow, relying on the trust of two industrialists and social media?” he said.Referring to CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar, Wadettiwar accused RSS of branding protesting students as anti-national and of seeking to intimidate them through RTI queries. “Lakhs of people take to the streets to protest peacefully, and you call them traitors. What kind of patriotism is that? If they keep calling this country’s youth traitors, they will have to face the consequences in the coming days,” Wadettiwar said.
