Mandya: Members of the Mandya Rakshana Vedike staged a demonstration at Sanjay Circle on Saturday, opposing the proposed visit of Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay to Karnataka.Raising “Go Back Vijay” placards and symbolically preparing tea on the roadside, protesters expressed strong resentment over the visit, and demanded that no meeting with the Tamil Nadu CM be held in the future.Although chief minister DK Shivakumar has stated that the proposed visit has been temporarily called off, the protesters insisted that the programme should be cancelled permanently. They raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu chief minister, accusing him of consistently adopting an anti-Karnataka stand on the long-standing Cauvery water dispute. The protesters alleged that Tamil Nadu has repeatedly opposed Karnataka’s interests by objecting to the proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir project. They claimed that despite Union govt earlier indicating that consent from neighbouring states is not mandatory for the project, Tamil Nadu govt has continued to insist that Karnataka obtain its approval before proceeding with the dam.
