Kolkata: Cops from the Chitpore Police Station have initiated an investigation into a complaint of persistent stalking and criminal trespass after a 25-year-old human resources (HR) manager was reportedly targeted by a former theatre colleague. The man has been booked for stalking and house-trespass. According to the FIR, registered at the Chitpore PS on Monday, the accused began harassing the complainant in late-Jan. The woman, a resident of Paikpara, reported that the ordeal escalated from unwanted contact to physical intrusions at her residence. In her complaint, the woman said her acquaintance with the accused dated back to 2009 when they were in a theatre group together. Although they were not in contact with each other for years, the man allegedly resurfaced on the night of Jan 27. In an ostensibly calculated move, she said, he arrived at her home on a motorcycle, disguised as a “challan officer”, wearing a helmet, and called her downstairs on the pretext of delivering official documents. The woman reportedly caught him out on seeing his face and attempted to raise an alarm, prompting the man to flee. This was apparently only the beginning of the three-month harassment that followed. The complaint details a pattern of “odd-hour visits”, when the accused would leave unsolicited articles and papers at her doorstep, said police. Despite a clear indication of disinterest and a direct warning delivered on a WhatsApp call on April 4, the man’s behaviour turned increasingly brazen, the complainant stated. The matter came to a head early on Monday, when around 5 am, the man allegedly scaled the locked collapsible gate of the woman’s home to enter the premises.
