T’puram: A father-son duo was allegedly abducted, brutally assaulted and threatened with explosives over a marriage dispute in Kilimanoor, Thiruvananthapuram.Police have registered a case against five persons, recovered country-made bombs, a gun and other weapons from the hideout of the accused.The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Anil Kumar (51), a native of Vadasserikonam, and his son Achu (20). Police named Vellalloor natives Sudheesh and Shamnad as the prime accused and also booked three to five unidentified persons.According to the police, the attack stemmed from a marriage proposal that was rejected two years ago. Sudheesh had reportedly expressed his interest in marrying Anil Kumar’s daughter. However, the family opposed the proposal. Police said the accused bore a grudge over the issue.Police said Anil Kumar was lured to Puthusserimukku on the pretext of discussing work. From there, another youth reportedly took him to an unfinished house near Appoopankavu Temple at Vellalloor. Inside the building, the gang reportedly tied his hands behind his back, gagged him and assaulted him using a screwdriver, an iron rod and wooden logs. They also reportedly showed explosive items to him and threatened to strap them to his body and kill him.Later, Achu was reportedly brought to the same location, chained to a pillar and tortured. Police said the accused used pliers to injure his hand and threatened to similarly abduct and confine the complainant’s wife and daughter.According to the police, the gang later sent Achu to bring his mother to the hideout. Instead, he rushed to Nagaroor police station and alerted officers about the abduction. Acting on the information, police reached the spot and rescued Anil Kumar.During the inspection, police found that a room inside the unfinished building had been soundproofed in a studio-like manner using glass, preventing screams from being heard outside.Anil Kumar and Achu, who sustained injuries in the attack, were admitted to hospital. Kilimanoor police have registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. Further investigation is underway to trace and arrest the accused.
