Gurgaon: A 25-year-old man was found shot dead inside the bathroom of his rented house in Rajiv Nagar on Wednesday morning, leaving cops to unravel conflicting accounts of what happened after two men claiming to be UP Police personnel knocked on the door.Digendra, who was from Bijnor, was staying with his live-in partner and had been working at a bakery in the area for around a month and half. His sister had come to stay with him for Rakshabandhan, while his friend Pankaj had been at the house for the past few days.According to the family, the incident unfolded around 6am when someone knocked on the door and identified themselves as UP Police personnel. Digendra and Pankaj then went into the attached bathroom. Soon after, a gunshot rang out from inside.Digendra’s sister and partner raised an alarm. The family alleged that the men who had identified themselves as UP cops left after hearing the gunshot. Sector 14 police were subsequently informed, but police are yet to establish whether the men were actually from UP Police.The family accused Pankaj, who was inside the bathroom with Digendra, of shooting him. Police, however, said preliminary probe suggested the possibility of suicide and were examining all circumstances surrounding the death.Sources said both men have criminal records. Multiple cases, including an attempt to murder case, were registered against Digendra in UP, and he was released from jail in June.Police took the body to Civil Hospital before sending it to the mortuary. A forensic team examined the bathroom and collected evidence. Inquest proceedings have been initiated.“Things will be clear after the autopsy on Thursday,” a police officer said, adding that the exact cause and manner of death would be established after the autopsy and further investigation.
