Ludhiana: Ludhiana rural police have arrested a person for rash and negligent driving after he rammed his vehicle into a small goods carrier and climbed onto shop ramps in Jagraon on Saturday night. The accused was identified as Dilpreet Singh of Kaunke colony in Jagraon. According to police, a team from Sadar Jagraon police station had set up a checkpoint near Kothe Pona, ahead of a petrol pump. When signaled to stop, the driver of a Swift Dzire ignored the police and sped towards Raikot Road.Police officials said that a chase ensued, during which the driver lost control near Adda Raikot. The car rammed into the raised platforms outside roadside shops, causing a tyre to burst, before colliding with a small tempo and coming to a halt. Local sources said that the impact left the car’s front bumper, right tyre, windshield, and driver-side portion badly damaged. Police apprehended the accused at the spot. SHO Sadar Jagraon police station, Inspector Surjit Singh, said that police have registered a case for rash and negligent driving, and further investigation is underway. Probe FindingsThe inspector suggested that police didn’t recover any illegal things from the accused and he was not in an inebriated condition as well. A police officer said that there were three persons in the car at the time of the accident. He added that none suffered injuries in the accident. The vehicle remains in police custody as part of the ongoing probe into the incident, which caused significant panic among local shopkeepers and residents near the Adda Raikot area during the late-night hours.
