Ludhiana: Lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail, a notorious criminal Mukul Mattu and three other inmates have been booked for possessing a mobile phone. Importantly, Mattu is facing multiple cases and has been involved in gun crime and smuggling illegal weapons. The Ludhiana police had recently arrested him for being a part of the extortion racket being run by the gangster Goldy Brar.Jaswinder Singh, assistant superintendent at Ludhiana Central Jail said that during a surprise check in the jail, the jail staffers recovered one mobile from the possession of the inmate Mukul Mattu, Taranpreet Singh, Gurpratap Singh and Sajanpreet Singh. In the month of December 2025, the Ludhiana city police and counter-intelligence in a joint operation had busted an extortion racket allegedly being run by Goldy Brar. Over 10 accused, including some inmates of Punjab jails were also arrested by the police for being a part of the racket. During this, the police had booked and arrested Mukul Mattu, who was lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail at that time too, for supplying weapons to the Goldy Brar’s racket, while sitting in the jail. Division number 7 police that has registered a case against the inmates, said that the police will bring the inmates on production warrant for questioning to know how they managed to get the mobile in the jail.
