Ahmedabad: A 53-year-old mobile shop owner has lodged a complaint with Vastrapur police alleging that he was cheated of over Rs 3 lakh by a man posing as a purchase officer of a reputed company and procured gadgets without making payment.According to the FIR filed on Saturday, the complainant allegedly received a call in Oct 2025 from a person claiming to be a purchase officer with a firm in the city. The caller expressed interest in buying electronic devices and assured that payment would be made within seven days of delivery.Trusting the claim, the trader supplied a total of 10 devices, including eight Apple iPads and two Lenovo tablets, in multiple consignments between Oct 17 and Oct 20. The goods, worth over Rs 3 lakh, were delivered to the office location mentioned by the accused, and the delivery was acknowledged with signatures on the invoices.However, the accused allegedly kept delaying payment giving various excuses and eventually stopped responding to the complainant’s calls.The complainant visited the company’s office to verify the order. He was informed that the accused was no longer employed there and that no such purchase order had been issued by the firm.Police said the accused misused the company’s name to gain the trader’s trust and fraudulently obtained the goods without paying for them.Vastrapur police have registered a case of cheating and breach of trust. Officials are now tracking the accused and verifying transaction details and delivery records to recover the goods or the amount.
