Kanpur: A 24-year-old man and his one-year-old niece were killed, while four others were injured after a car collided head-on with their motorcycle on the Jhansi–Mirzapur National Highway near Teiya village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district late Sunday. The accident occurred after the biker allegedly tried to avoid a nilgai that suddenly came onto the road.None of the four people riding the motorcycle were wearing helmets, police said.Devprakash Anuragi (24), a resident of Dulara village under Mahobkanth police station, had gone to Harpalpur railway station at around 8 pm to drop his cousin Vinod (26), sister-in-law Sita (22) and one-year-old niece Shivanshi, who were scheduled to travel to Delhi by train.Police said the crash took place near Teiya village when Devprakash attempted to save a nilgai that suddenly appeared on the highway, causing the motorcycle to collide head-on with a car.All four occupants of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. Car occupants, Afzal (50) and his elder brother Iqbal (55), residents of Shivaji Nagar in Jhansi district, were also injured.After receiving information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Panwari, where doctors declared Devprakash and Shivanshi dead.The remaining injured were referred to the Medical College in Jhansi as their condition was critical, said Mahobkanth SHO Vinod Kumar Saroj.
