Thane: Shahapur police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly murdering a farmer who had become an obstacle to his illicit relationship with the victim‘s wife in a remote village of Shahapur taluka.The victim, Vaman Alo Niraguda (52), was found murdered with severe injuries to his neck at Kharpat village on July 16. His wife, Jyoti Niraguda (36), lodged a complaint after discovering his body in a field when he failed to return home from work.Police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation under the supervision of Thane Rural Superintendent of Police Vinaykumar Rathod and Additional SP Anmol Mittal. Multiple teams from the Shahapur subdivision, Kinhavali police station and the Local Crime Branch were formed to crack the case.Investigators said the murder took place in a remote forested area, leaving behind little physical evidence. However, sustained fieldwork and technical analysis helped police identify Dhanesh Dev Mangal (35), a resident of the same village, as the prime suspect.During interrogation, police found that the accused was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with the victim‘s wife. Investigators said Mangal viewed Vaman as an obstacle to the relationship and allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck.The accused was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody.
