Mumbai: A 20-year-old man was arrested by Oshiwara police for the murder of his wife after he tried to pass it off as a natural death. His lies came to light when the postmortem examination concluded the death to be homicidal.Siraj Ansari lived with his wife, Sabirunisa, at Gulshan Nagar in Jogeshwari West. Ansari is a daily-wager. Police said the couple had been married for about a year. Sabirunisa was previously married to one Arif Ansari (25).Police said Ansari objected to his wife’s frequent phone calls with her ex-husband and he used to fight with her over the issue.On Sunday, he took his wife to a hospital claiming that she had died of natural causes. The hospital alerted police after observing ligature marks on Sabirunisa’s neck. The body was sent for an autopsy, which revealed that she had been strangled to death. Police said Ansari had strangled her with a black thread that she wore for religious reasons.An FIR was registered against Ansari on Monday and he was arrested.
