Prayagraj: A man in Kaushambi allegedly killed his 40-year-old girlfriend and then googled ways to throw police off his trail. He and his cousin have been arrested for the crime after her body was found near Parsipur village railway track on Feb 7.Police cracked the case within 24 hours, identifying the victim as Urmila Devi from Mohhabatpur Painsa using social media. The woman’s body was found with her mouth taped and legs tied with a rope. The police got a breakthrough after the autopsy revealed strangulation, leading to the arrest of Dinesh Kumar and Ranjeet Kumar, both from Mohhabatpur Painsa, as they planned to flee. Police found Google search history on the accused’s phones revealing searches like “how to get rid of a woman (lover)”, “how to kill a lover”, and “evade police action”.SP Kaushambi Rajesh Kumar said Dinesh, the prime accused, cracked under police questioning and revealed the sequence of events. Dinesh met the victim 2 years ago while paying an electricity bill and had been in touch with her since. As the woman lost her husband a couple of years back, Dinesh started visiting her house frequently and fell in love with her. However, when Dinesh’s marriage was fixed about two months back, he planned to get rid of the victim as she started threatening him to report the matter to police and lodge an FIR.Left with no option, Dinesh discussed the issue with his cousin Ranjeet and hatched a conspiracy to eliminate her in a planned way. The duo even went through Google seeking ideas on how to get rid of a woman and evade police action. Under the planned strategy, Dinesh brought her near the Parsipur railway underpass on Feb 7, where Ranjeet was already present. The duo later strangled the woman to death and dumped her body near the railway track to colour it as an accident.
