Rajkot: A 28-year-old man was killed in a violent attack allegedly over a monetary dispute near the ITI on the Rajkot–Porbandar National Highway at Jamkandorna bridge on Saturday evening.The deceased, identified as Himalay Baraiya, was attacked with a sharp weapon and later succumbed to his injuries at a govt hospital. Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case, while a search is on for two others.According to a complaint lodged at Dhoraji taluka police station by the victim’s uncle, Paresh Baraiya (45), a vegetable commission agent, the family owed Rs 4.08 lakh to PR Angadia, owned by Bhagirathsinh Jethwa. Of this, Rs 70,000 was paid earlier in the day, and the remaining amount was promised by Monday.The complainant alleged that Jethwa had issued threats over the pending dues. Later in the evening, Paresh’s son Vivek informed him that he had been attacked by Bhagirathsinh, Mahidipsinh Jethwa, and two unidentified persons while walking along the highway near the ITI.Paresh, along with his brother Keshav and nephew Himalay, rushed to the spot. During the confrontation, Bhagirathsinh allegedly attacked Himalay with an iron axe, while Mahidipsinh assaulted other family members with a stick. The accused then fled the scene in a car.Himalay, a labourer, was first taken to Dhoraji Government Hospital and later referred to Junagadh Government Hospital, where he was declared dead. Vivek also sustained injuries in the attack.Investigating officer J P Gosai said the attack was captured on CCTV cameras in the area, and the footage will be seized as part of the probe. “The main accused were arrested within hours of the attack, and efforts are on to trace the remaining suspects and recover the weapons used,” he said.
