Chandrapur: A 55-year-old cattle herder was killed in a tiger attack in the Satara Bhosale forest under the Junona range of the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) on Wednesday afternoon.The victim, Ushtu Porte, had entered the forest with fellow herders to graze cattle. According to officials, the group was resting when a tiger suddenly emerged from the dense forest and attacked Porte, killing him on the spot. His companions escaped by climbing nearby trees and later alerted villagers and authorities.FDCM and police teams, along with local residents, rushed to the spot. Officials recovered Porte’s body after a search and conducted a spot panchnama. The body was later sent to Chandrapur for post-mortem examination.The incident triggered tension in the area, with villagers demanding stronger measures to prevent recurring wildlife attacks.The FDCM provided an immediate ex-gratia assistance of 50,000 to Porte’s family. Forest officials have intensified patrolling in the area and advised residents to avoid entering the forest until further notice.
