Kanpur: A 40-year-old labourer allegedly jumped into a rain-swollen drain and was swept away after an argument with his wife over her refusal to cook fish. Despite a search involving local divers and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the man remained untraceable nearly 20 hours after the incident.The incident occurred in the City Kotwali area on Friday night.Police said Anil Kumar, a resident of Ramnagar, had returned home from the market with eggs and fish. He allegedly asked his wife, Rachna, to cook both items.However, Rachna told him that their son did not eat fish and prepared only the eggs. When Anil later noticed that the fish had not been cooked, he allegedly lost his temper and began creating a disturbance at home.Police said he also started smashing household belongings. Alarmed by his behaviour, his wife allegedly locked him inside the room from outside.After some time, however, Anil reportedly managed to get out through the back of the house and jumped into a drain flowing nearby. The drain had been swollen by recent rain and was carrying a strong current.When Rachna saw him being swept away, she raised an alarm, following which local residents gathered at the spot.Kotwali police reached the area after receiving information and launched a search operation with the help of local divers. However, repeated attempts failed to trace the man.An SDRF team joined the operation on Saturday morning and carried out an extensive search along the drain. Despite nearly 20 hours of efforts, there was no trace of Anil till Saturday evening.
