Kanpur: A man and his three daughters, who were killed when their mud house collapsed in Hirni village in Kanpur’s Ghatampur on Sunday, were given their last rites on Monday after the family received immediate financial assistance of Rs 35,000.The family had initially refused to perform the rites until assistance was provided. Tehsildar Om Prakash subsequently provided the amount.The family members and the villagers carried the four biers to the ghat, where Mukesh’s younger brother Neende performed the last rites on Monday afternoon. Mukesh was cremated, while his daughters’ bodies were immersed in the Yamuna.Om Prakash collected the Aadhaar card, bank account details and other documents of Mukesh’s injured daughter, Kajal alias Laxmi, to process further assistance.A financial assistance of Rs 16 lakh from the Natural Disaster Fund will be deposited into Kajal’s account.After the four bodies departed for their last rites, a profound silence enveloped the homes of Hirni village. The house from which the four funeral biers left is now devoid of any voices.Mukesh’s motorcycle remains buried in the rubble even today, with no one left in the house to retrieve it. Villagers reflect that if Mukesh had managed to escape upon hearing the collapse, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided.Since the morning, many households in the village have not lit their stoves. Following the accident, residents have remained indoors, and discussions throughout the village are solely focused on this unfortunate incident.
