Vadodara: Cybercrime sleuths have arrested a man for allegedly duping several people by promising high returns on their investments. Accused Narayan Kangne was arrested from Maharashtra with the assistance of local police.The arrest followed a complaint from a city resident who alleged that he was duped of Rs 5 lakh by Kangne’s gang. According to the complaint, the victim was asked to download a mobile application called ‘SD Pay’ and invest money through it. However, when he attempted to withdraw his funds, he realised that he had been defrauded and subsequently approached the Vadodara Cybercrime police station.“During the investigation, we learnt that the fraudulent app had been downloaded by more than 10 people across the country. The gang targeted people by offering cashback schemes and referral bonuses. Two FIRs have already been registered in the city and we expect more complainants to come forward,” a cybercrime official said.
