Rourkela: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting an on-duty doctor at Bargarh community health centre (CHC) the day before.The doctor sustained head injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment.The accused was identified as Vickey Singh, a resident of Gangadhar Nagar in Bargarh.According to the police, Singh brought a school student for treatment at the CHC on Sunday around 2am. While the student was being attended to, Singh allegedly entered the on-duty doctor’s room and asked Dr Sudipta Rout to check his blood pressure. Rout had asked Singh to wait for some time, citing that the latter had just rushed in and needed to rest before the reading could be taken. Singh allegedly got angry, picked up a stool and struck the doctor on the head.On receiving information, personnel from Bargarh town police station reached the CHC and detained Singh. Rout later lodged an FIR, following which, a case was registered and he was arrested. “We are further investigating the case,” C R Meher, inspector in-charge, Bargarh town police station, said.
