TIRUPUR: Police have arrested suspended sub-inspector K Saravanan, 52, in connection with a conspiracy to murder a key state witness in the advocate Muruganantham murder case in Dharapuram in Tirupur district. The advocate murder case witness, M Thangavel, 42, is an astrologer hailing from Dharapuram in Tirupur district. He is also the complainant in the murder case. Madras high court advocate Muruganantham was murdered in July 2025. On July 7 this year, while travelling on a two-wheeler, murder case witness Thangavel was intercepted and attacked with sickles by two men who came in a car. The duo fled the scene after the assault. Thangavel survived the murder attempt with injuries. The Dharapuram police registered a case and arrested D Saraswathi, 55, of Dharapuram, and Hema, 47, of Salem, Mohammed Risanth, 30, and Mohammed Shamim, 32, of Malappuram, Rashid, 36, of Kasaragod in Kerala, Babu Sahulin, 32, of Nagercoil, and Nandakumar, 52, of Dharapuram in connection with the murder attempt. Further investigations revealed that suspended sub-inspector Saravanan had plotted to murder Thangavel. Saravanan is the father of S Surjith, who is the prime accused in the caste killing of software engineer C Kavin Selvaganesh in Tirunelveli July 27, 2025. Kavin was murdered as he was in a relationship with Kavin’s sister. Saravanan was also arrested in connection with the caste killing case and lodged in the Palayamkottai Central Prison, where he befriended Dhandapani, an accused in the advocate Muruganantham murder case. They hatched a plan inside the jail to eliminate Thangavel, the key state witness in the advocate murder case. Saravanan recently came out on bail. “Further investigations are under way regarding Saravanan’s exact role in the plot to murder Thangavel” a police officer said.
