Berhampur: A 28-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at Rekapalli in Ganjam district on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as R Raja Rao, a resident of Aruguni near Chhatrapur.Passers-by spotted the body on Friday morning and alerted police and his family members. Sources said the assailants attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon before dumping his body near a chicken outlet.Rao’s brother said he went out around 10:30 pm, when some of his friends called him. “He had previous enmity with them. In the morning, we received information about his death and rushed to the spot,” he said.“Circumstantial evidence suggests he was killed by a group of miscreants. Though the exact motive is yet to be ascertained, we suspect it might be the fallout of previous enmity,” said Sabyasachi Malla, inspector in-charge, Chhatrapur police station.He added, “After registering a murder case, we launched an investigation. Three teams were formed — two teams are searching different areas to nab the accused and another searched the nearby areas. A forensic team and dog squad have been deployed.” Police said they have identified the attackers and they will be arrested soon. Rao’s mobile phone was also seized.
