T’puram: A fast track court in Attingal sentenced a 30-year-old man to 23 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 4 lakh in a case of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl with intellectual disability.The convict, identified as Subash Chandrabose Chelladurai (30) of Vellalloor, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the minor after luring her to his residence on the pretext of buying her food. Judge C R Biju Kumar also ordered an additional two years of imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.According to prosecution, the incident occurred on Jan 1, 2024.The offence came to light after the survivor disclosed the incident to her parents. Following this, Nagaroor police registered a case on Jan 8, 2024, and launched a probe.The investigation was led by Nagaroor SI Aneesh Abraham, who later filed the chargesheet before the court.Special public prosecutor U Salim Shah and advocate Neelima R Krishnan appeared for the prosecution. WCPO Dhanya T M, the victim liaison officer, coordinated the prosecution proceedings and assisted the survivor during the trial.
