Sonipat: A fast-track special POCSO court in Sonipat has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl in the Gannaur police station area.The court handed down the sentence to the convict, Sunil alias Sunny, under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, alongside imposing a fine of ₹50,000. For kidnapping the minor, the court awarded him an additional three-year term of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,000.According to the prosecution, Sunil took the minor on a motorcycle to agricultural fields, where he sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light after the victim’s family approached the Gannaur police station the following day and filed a complaint.Following the complaint, police registered an FIR, conducted an investigation, and subsequently submitted a chargesheet before the court.During trial proceedings, govt counsel Virender Singh presented the prosecution’s evidence and documentation. “The case was effectively argued before the court and the prosecution presented the relevant evidence during the proceedings,” Singh stated.After examining the evidence on record, the court convicted Sunil under Section 4 of the POCSO Act and relevant kidnapping charges.The court directed that failure to pay the fines would result in additional simple imprisonment. Warrants were issued to commit the convict to district jail, Sonipat, to serve out his sentences.
