Udupi: A man drowned in a quarry pit in Brahmavar on Thursday. The deceased is Arun. According to the complaint, Thangavelu,43, a native of Palani in Tamil Nadu, was working as a stone breaker at a quarry operated by Bashir and Sharath Shetty at Garkimath in Yedthadi village. He was residing in a workers’ room near the quarry along with his son Manikanta and his nephew Arun, who arrived from their hometown four days ago.Between 11.30 am and 11.45 am, Arun entered a nearby water-filled quarry pit to take a bath and accidentally drowned. It is alleged that due to stone extraction, a deep pit was formed at the site, which accumulated rainwater up to a depth of around 20ft. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at Brahmavar police station, invoking Section 106(1) read with Section 34 of the BNS, against the quarry operators and others for alleged negligence.
