Kanpur: A 34-year-old man died, while his 38-year-old sister-in-law was hospitalised after allegedly having a cold drink laced with poison in Southna village under the Usrahar police station area of Etawah late Sunday.Family members first took Gulab Singh and Mamta to Sarsainawar CHC, which referred them to the district hospital after their condition worsened. Emergency medical officer Dr Omkant Rajput said both arrived unconscious. Doctors declared Gulab dead, while Mamta was admitted for treatment.The woman alleged that her estranged husband, Mahavir Singh, and his elder brother, Naresh, had given them the poisoned drink. She alleged that Mahavir was addicted to alcohol and did not meet household expenses. Following frequent disputes, she separated from him about three years ago and moved with her children to live with Gulab, who supported them. She alleged Mahavir resented this.Mamta said she began vomiting after having the cold drink, while Gulab went outside, lay down and later fell unconscious.Usrahar police station in charge Narendra Mishra said the cause of death would be established after the postmortem report.
