Suri: A 28-year-old man died after suffering a stroke on Monday, with his family alleging he was distressed after his name was marked “under adjudication” in the final electoral roll released by the Election Commission following its Special Intensive Revision (SIR).Sheikh Kamrul, a contractual labourer from Dhalla village in Birbhum’s Suri and the sole breadwinner of his family, was taken ill on Sunday night and rushed to Suri Hospital. Doctors suspected a stroke and referred him to Burdwan medical college, where he died en route.His mother, Janjahara Bibi, said her son feared losing his livelihood and had been suffering headaches due to stress over the SIR process.Kamrul is survived by his father, a person with disabilities, his mother, wife and two young children. Trinamool Suri-I panchayat samiti member Arif Hussain Bappa visited the family and promised support. He said 230 residents of Dhalla village had been marked “under adjudication”. Bappa said EC and BJP must be held accountable for the death. BJP activists dismissed the claim, saying the death was due to a “medical issue”.
