Udupi: Manipal police have registered a case after a 48-year-old resident of Nalkur village in Udupi district was allegedly cheated of Rs 4.2 lakh on the pretext of setting up a delivery hub franchise.The complainant received a call from a person identifying himself as M Sai Krishna on June 29. The caller offered to set up an online delivery hub franchise at a complex on the Udupi–Manipal–Alevoor Road. The complainant initially declined the offer and disconnected the call.He later received another call in which he was told that only the initial registration had to be completed online. The callers allegedly claimed that the company’s field officers would visit the proposed location, execute an agreement and lock the area PIN code for the franchise.Sai Krishna, M Guruswamy, Suresh Kumar, Raj Kumar and Mahesh allegedly posed as field officers and assured the complainant that they would establish the delivery hub franchise in Udupi-Manipal. Believing their claims, he transferred a total of rs 4.2 lakh in multiple instalments. He later realised that he had allegedly been deceived. Based on his complaint, Manipal police registered a case under Sections 316(1), 316(2), 318(1), 318(2), 318(3), 318(4), 319 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
