Kanpur: Curiosity proved costly for a 60-year-old man who was bitten by a snake after he attempted to touch the reptile inside Gokul Baba temple premises in Unnao on Sunday. The snake had reportedly been brought to the temple by children of snake charmers. The man was admitted to a hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable.According to reports, the victim, identified as SP Singh, a resident of the Magarwara area, visited the temple at around 10.30 am on Sunday.Witnesses said children of snake charmers were sitting inside the temple premises with snakes. Out of curiosity, Singh tried to touch one of the reptiles, following which it bit him.His family members and local residents immediately rushed him to the district hospital for treatment.Singh also carried the snake in a sealed bag so that doctors could identify its species and administer appropriate treatment. The presence of the snake briefly created panic among patients and attendants after news spread that a live snake had been brought into the hospital.Doctors at the district hospital promptly began treatment and kept Singh under continuous observation. After administering first aid, they conducted the necessary tests and provided medication. His condition was later reported to be stable.After being informed of the incident, outpost in-charge Anjani Singh reached the hospital and gathered details about the case.Police also began investigating why children were present inside the temple premises with snakes.
