Times News NetworkKanpur: A police team that went to arrest an accused wanted in an old case was attacked by the accused and his family members in the Sirsa Kalar police station area of Jalaun, where a COBRA constable was taken hostage inside a house and beaten for about 20 minutes with sticks and other weapons.During the incident, which took place on Saturday afternoon, another constable escaped by jumping from the roof and reached the police station to report the attack. After receiving the information, a heavy police force reached the spot, freed the injured constable from the accused’s custody and arrested three brothers.According to information, COBRA constable Saurabh Patel went with a colleague to the house of Majid, son of Shafiullah, to take him into custody in connection with the domestic violence case against them. As soon as both policemen entered the house, the women present there closed the door. Majid and his two brothers, Rafiq and Shafiq, who were inside the house, allegedly attacked Saurabh Patel with sticks.The attackers allegedly kept Saurabh Patel hostage for about 20 minutes and continuously assaulted him, leaving him seriously injured. The other constable present with him jumped from the roof of the house, came out and went directly to the police station to inform about the incident.On receiving the information, police from Sirsa Kalar police station and other police personnel reached the spot, surrounded the house, brought out the hostage constable safely and sent him for treatment in an injured condition. Police arrested Majid, Rafiq and Shafiq from the spot.Superintendent of police Vinay Kumar Singh, said that a case was registered against the accused under charges of obstructing govt work, attacking police personnel, taking hostage, and other related sections. “A thorough investigation was being conducted and strict legal action would be taken against the guilty,” said the SP further.An officer privy to the investigation said, “Ajmeran Khan, wife of Majid and a resident of Sirsa Kalar, had lodged a complaint at the police station on Saturday night stating therein that she has three daughters. As she has no son, her husband and parents-in-law repeatedly threaten to get her divorced. She said her husband also frequently assaulted her after drinking alcohol. On Friday night, the husband beat his wife with kicks and punches. On the complaint, the station in-charge had registered an FIR against three people. Since Saturday morning, the police had been searching for the accused in the assault case.”
