Pacer Gurnoor Brar made a strong case for a Test debut in Sri Lanka next month as he bagged a match haul of 10 wickets in India-A’s resounding 10-wicket win in the second and final ‘Test’ against Sri Lanka-A here on Sunday.
The Dhruv Jurel-led side thus clinched the series 1-0. Behind by 177 runs at the end of the opening exchanges, the home team was bundled out for 209 in the second innings after Gurnoor (six for 68) ran through the SL-A batting unit with a six-wicket haul.
Barring No. 4 Ashen Bandara (87, 86b, 11×4, 2×6), none of the batters could make a significant contribution for SL-A.
With India-A having only 33 runs to chase, B. Sai Sudharsan and Aman Mokhade got the job done in 6.2 overs.
Auqib Nabi, the other contender for a spot in the Test team for the two-match series against Sri Lanka, paled in Gurnoor’s comparison.
The Punjab fast bowler had impressed in his debut ODI series against Afghanistan at home last month and was part of the Test squad too but did not make it to the XI.
The scores: Sri Lanka-A 366 & 209 in 48.3 overs (Bandara 87, Gurnoor 6/68) lost to India-A 543/9 in 143.3 overs (Sai Sudharsan 168, Padikkal 94, Jurel 53, Saransh 70 n.o., Nuwantha 5/159, Sudeera 3/102) & 36/0 in 6.2 overs.
