Kendrapada: Two weeks after being released from jail, a 35-year-old man allegedly attacked two minor boys with a sharp weapon in Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday evening. The accused, Nityananda Das of Chandapur village under Raghunathpur police station limits, had served six years in jail for killing his mother in 2019 after she refused to give him money for liquor.Police said, the boys, Akasha Nayak (14) and Omprakash Marandi (12) of the same village, were buying biscuits from a shop when Das suddenly attacked them with a knife. As he tried to flee, villagers chased and caught him at Sidhabhui village about two kilometres away. He was subsequently detained and was arrested on Sunday. “We seized a blood-stained sharp weapon from him. The motive behind the attack could not be ascertained immediately,” said Jogeshwar Behera, IIC of Raghunathpur police station.The boys were initially taken to the Raghunathpur community health centre before being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition was serious, police added.
