Mumbai: Malwani police have arrested a man on charges of raping a woman and blackmailing her with an obscene video that he had clicked of hers, subsequently duping her of Rs 33 lakh.Police said the accused and the 41-year-old complainant got acquainted over Facebook last year and soon became friends. The complainant works as a teacher while the accused is employed with a private company. After their friendship grew, the accused invited the complainant to meet him at Marve beach in Malad. When she went to meet him, he goaded her to accompany him to a lodge where she was raped. On later occasions, he also took her to another lodge near Dahisar check-naka where she was raped. Police said he had filmed the woman inappropriately, without her knowledge, and later began to blackmail her. He threatened to circulate the video online if she did not pay him. Between Feb and Sept 2025, the woman gave him eight tolas of gold jewellery besides online money transfers, collectively upto Rs 33 lakh.Traumatised and fed up with the blackmail, she recently approached the Malwani Police and registered a complaint against him, following which he was arrested.
