Kendrapada: Police on Monday arrested a poultry shop owner in Jagatsinghpur district for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old tribal orphan girl multiple times.According to police, some local residents caught the 28-year-old accused, assaulted him and tied him to a tree after learning about the crime. Police rushed to the spot and took him into custody. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had been assaulting the child inside his shop for the past three days after giving her a drug-laced cold drink. The minor, an orphan, was living in a nearby slum.“We have arrested the accused and booked him under Section 65(2) of the BNS (rape on a woman under 12 years) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Medical examination has confirmed sexual assault,” said investigating officer Kabuli Barik.The accused was produced before the Jagatsinghpur court on Monday. His bail plea was rejected, and he was remanded in judicial custody.
