Krishnagiri: A 43-year-old man was arrested in Krishnagiri on Sunday, for hunting deer, storing its meat and supplying it to his customers.The forest department identified the arrested as Perumal, 43, of Pallathur village, on the border of the Ilavambadi forest near Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district. Forest personnel seized spotted deer meat and two deer heads from his house during a surprise search following a tip-off. The forest department’s intelligence unit had received information that Perumal was repeatedly entering the forest area and hunting wild animals.Hosur district forest officer (DFO) K Rajangam ordered action on the information. Subsequently a task force under the guidance of forest officer Muniyappan; comprising Uthangarai forest officer Subash, and Kallavi forest officer Narayanan was formed.“The team surrounded Perumal’s house at an unexpected time and conducted a search, during which they found the meat and deer heads kept for sale,” the DFO said. He added that the investigation revealed that Perumal had also been carrying out door delivery services to supply the deer meat discretely.The forest department has registered a case and is investigating further. Perumal was later produced before the Uthangarai subcourt and lodged at the Krishnagiri subjail under judicial custody. Meanwhile, the forest department has warned that those involved in hunting wild animals, selling or buying its meat will face strict action under the Goondas Act.
