Coimbatore: At least 36,564 students are expected to appear for Class XII board exams, which would be conducted from March 2 to 26, in Coimbatore district. Among them are 19,344 boys and 16,368 girls from 365 govt, aided and private schools and 852 private candidates.According to an education department official, the exams would begin with Tamil and other language papers on March 2, followed by English on March 5. chemistry, accountancy and geography on March 9, and physics, economics and employability skills on March 13. Mathematics, zoology, commerce, microbiology, nutrition and dietetics, textile, food Service management, agricultural science and nursing exams would be conducted on March 17, while biology, botany, business mathematics, electronics, civil, automobile, mechanical, textile management and office management exams would be held on March 23. The final set of exams, including computer science, communicative English, Indian culture, computer applications, biochemistry, advanced Tamil, home science, political science, statistics, nursing and basic electrical engineering, would be conducted on March 26. The exams would be conducted at 130 centres in the district, with 20 students allotted per classroom. The official said seven question paper custody centres and 37 distribution routes have been arranged in the district. “A total of 130 chief superintendents, 130 departmental officers, 2,100 invigilators and 300 static and flying squad personnel have been appointed for exam duty.” Education department officials said they have ensured availability of basic facilities – drinking water, toilets and transport arrangements – at all exam centres. “The district administration has made comprehensive arrangements to enable students to write exams in a smooth and fear-free environment. In Salem district, 37,542 students are expected to appear for Class XII board exams at 153 centres. The district houses four question paper storage centers. To ensure smooth conduct of exams, a district selection committee has been formed in Salem under the chairmanship of collector R Brindha Devi. The committee comprises the city police commissioner, district superintendent of police, deputy director of health, PWD executive engineer, superintending engineer of electricity board, general manager of state transport corporation and fire safety officer. Separate flying squads have also been formed to conduct surprise visits to all exam centres and take action against those involved in irregular activities.
