ERODE: A man was arrested on Tuesday on charges of abetting the suicide of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Erode district. The Anthiyur police arrested Sathish,32, of Kallakurichi district from his hideout at Thaniyalampattu in Villupuram district.Dharani, daughter of Murugesan of Thavittupalayam near Anthiyur in Erode district, hanged herself in a bathroom at her home on April 22. A day before dying by suicide, the girl had told her parents that Sathish had constantly called her over the phone and threatened her. Police said it was not clear how he got her phone number.On April 22, the man verbally abused her father over the phone. “Distraught by this, the girl hanged herself in a bathroom home when no one was home,” a police officer said. The girl’s parents filed a petition at the district collector’s office on Monday, alleging that police had not arrested the man even 26 days after her suicide.On Tuesday, the Anthiyur police arrested Sathish. He was remanded in judicial custody.
