COIMBATORE: A 41-year-old labourer was found bludgeoned to death near Achankulam in Neelambur on Monday morning. The Neelambur police arrested one suspect on Monday evening and launched a manhunt for another.The deceased has been identified as V Saravanan of Ariyalur district. He was working as a daily wage earner at a private container cylinder company in A G Puthur in Coimbatore district. The suspects, S Gokul, 25, and Harish, 29, both from Paramakudi, were also employed as labourers at the same company.According to police, a couple who went to collect their fishing nets near Achankulam around 8am on Monday found a man’s naked body. The victim had severe bleeding injuries on his face, head, and legs. They immediately alerted local village authorities. Based on a complaint filed by village administrative officer Durga, the Neelambur police registered a case under sections 296(b) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Investigators found that on Sunday night, local fishermen had noticed three men arguing loudly near the pond. When questioned, the men told them that they were settling a family dispute.On Monday evening, police detained Gokul, 25, of Paramakudi. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed that he, Harish, and Saravanan had gone to the secluded spot to consume liquor. A quarrel broke out among them and escalated into violence, after which Gokul and Harish allegedly assaulted Saravanan with stones and fled. Saravanan’s body has been sent to ESI Hospital in Singanallur for postmortem. Police launched a manhunt for Harish.
