Kolkata: The Bengal govt, in a note to the EC on Tuesday, informed that CM Mamata Banerjee has resigned from over 20 posts which she held in various committees by virtue of being the CM.Before filing her nomination, she vacated all positions that constitute an ‘office of profit’ to keep all controversies at bay. Among the various posts she held were the head of the State Health Mission, and chairperson of the State Land Use Board, Urdu Academy, State Board for Wildlife, State Disaster Management Authority and the Industrial Investment Promotion Board.An official said the EC had earlier disqualified Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan in 2006, as she was then heading the UP Film Development Council. He noted that the SC has stated that an ‘office of profit’ is defined by whether the office carries the potential for pecuniary gain.
