Senior Malayalam actor Maniyanpilla Raju’s car allegedly collided with a two-wheeler while he was exiting the Trivandrum Club at around 9:30 PM Thursday night, leaving two young men injured.

According to police, a car allegedly struck a motorcycle carrying two 20-year-olds and then left the scene.

The injured, identified as Sooraj and Nidev from Thiruvananthapuram, were taken to the hospital. One suffered a fracture in the leg, while the other is undergoing treatment for a spinal injury.

Police said the actor could not be contacted for several hours after the crash. A preliminary inquiry later confirmed that he was driving the vehicle at the time.

The Museum Police registered an FIR under Sections 281 and 125 (A) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and Sections 134(A) and 134(B) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

CCTV footage of the accident was also shared by ANI. It shows the car crashing into the bike while crossing the road.

For now, the actor got station bail in connection with the case.

“I heard a sound and saw someone fall,” he told reporters, adding that after leaving the spot he asked someone to arrange an ambulance.

He also said he did not remain at the scene due to health reasons. The actor stated he is undergoing cancer treatment and is currently suffering from chikungunya, and his wife was alone at home. He informed police he would report in the morning and agreed to hand over the vehicle for inspection.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events.
