Noida: Raman Raj, an engineer accused of murdering 19-year-old Assam resident Mahak Ahmed at a paying guest accommodation in Barola village, will likely be brought to the city after Aug 26. Raj, a native of Katihar in Bihar, was sent to judicial custody by a local court there following his arrest in Bihar on Aug 11.Noida police have initiated proceedings to obtain a B-warrant for his transfer. A hearing on the application could not be completed as local police were unavailable. A Katihar court has now fixed Aug 26 as the next date of hearing. Sector 49 police station SHO Ram Prasad Sharma said that a team is currently in Katihar and is working on the legal process to bring Raj to Noida, and further action will be taken after the court passes an order on the B-warrant.Raj, who previously worked for an IT company in the city but had been unemployed for some time, allegedly had an argument with Ahmed on Aug 8. The exact motive for the murder, however, has not been established so far.Ahmed’s body was found in Raj’s room on Aug 10, following which cops launched an investigation to trace the accused who was on the run at the time. The postmortem examination found around 10 injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon on Ahmed’s body, confirming the brutal nature of the attack.Once Raj can be questioned in Noida, it will help establish the precise motive behind the murder, the sequence of events leading to the killing and other crucial details related to the case, police added.
