Ghaziabad: A 38-year-old Delhi Police head constable was arrested in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide in the death of a woman head constable. The two had both been posted at the same police station in Delhi for more than two years.On Sunday, a 37-year-old Delhi Police head constable’s body was found in a hotel room in Sahibabad. The woman and the accused, Loni resident Sachin Kumar, had been in a relationship for the past two years. Kumar is also married with three children.The woman’s father alleged in his complaint that on Aug 14, his daughter told his wife on a phone call that the accused was harassing her. She called his wife again the next day, appearing troubled, but would not give any reason for her distress.When the parents tried to call her on Aug 16, she did not pick up. The radio silence made the couple anxious, and they asked other family members to try calling her as well. When she still could not be reached, they contacted her police station in Delhi and informed her colleagues, who later provided them with the location of her mobile phone.By the time they reached the hotel, local police were present at the scene and directed them to a nearby hospital, where she had been declared dead. Local police later informed the family she had died by suicide at the hotel.The complainant’s wife said that their daughter had told her a colleague had “trapped her” in a relationship by lying about being unmarried and exploited her. She also allegedly told her mother that the accused was mentally harassing her.The complainant alleged that CCTV footage and visitor records from the hotel show that Kumar was in the hotel room for some time the night before her body was found. The family alleged the two got into an argument over Kumar’s marriage on the night of Aug 15. Police said the woman tried to call the accused several times after he left the hotel room. She was found hanging the next day.An FIR has been registered against the accused under BNS sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means etc) at Sahibabad police station.“We have arrested the accused and sent a report to Delhi Police,” ACP (Sahibabad) Amit Saxena added.
