Indore: Students at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) will soon have access to Madhya Pradesh’s first Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), with the university planning to launch the facility in Jan 2027.
Being developed on the Takshashila campus, the centre aims to strengthen AI education, research and industry-oriented skill development.
Construction work has already begun and the centre is expected to be ready by Dec-end. It will house a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with advanced AI and machine learning hardware, software and research tools. The university has earmarked an initial budget of Rs 1 crore for research equipment, which officials said could be increased in future as the facility expands.
The centre will offer certificate and diploma programmes in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science. Classes will be conducted in three daily shifts, with each batch accommodating up to 50 students. The facility is expected to train nearly 500 students every year through a combination of theory sessions and hands-on practical learning.
According to the university, experts from leading institutions across the country will conduct training modules ranging from seven to 15 days. DAVV is also planning to sign MoUs with national institutions and invite faculty members from premier institutes, including IITs and IIITs, to mentor students.
Vice-chancellor Rakesh Singhai said the Centre of Excellence would function on the lines of a national-level professional institute rather than a conventional university department. He said the university intends to provide advanced research facilities to selected students with a strong interest in AI and machine learning.
Besides regular training programmes, the laboratory will also be open to selected students from the university’s teaching departments for research projects. Students from the School of Computer Science, Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), School of Energy and other departments working on AI-related research will be given priority. The lab will remain accessible until 6 pm and its academic activities will be supervised by senior DAVV faculty members.
