Ludhiana: While an NRI visiting Punjab from Australia has become a social media sensation after pulling a sword on would-be robbers, forcing the suspects to flee during a late-night highway ambush, the Dehlon police now claim to have arrested two suspects. The police suspect the apprehended duo to be the acutal highway robbers but will ascertain it during questioning. Harjind Kaur was driving with her mother-in-law and aunt near Dehlon when two men on a motorcycle targeted their vehicle using the “egg-on-the-windshield” tactic — a method where eggs are thrown to obscure a driver’s vision and force them to stop in an isolated area.Instead of succumbing to panic, Harjind Kaur confronted the miscreants with a sword she had in the car. Her family captured the encounter on video, which went viral and pressured local authorities into swift action. Following the public outcry, Dehlon police arrested two suspects. While the police claim to have recovered nine stolen articles (eight mobile phones and a motorcycle) from the duo, they are still verifying if these specific individuals were the ones involved in the Friday night attempt on the NRI. Notably, one of the suspects is a repeat offender with a prior record for snatching.Jurisdictional Tug-of-WarDespite the arrests, a bureaucratic dispute has emerged over which station is responsible for the case: Dehlon police inspector Avneet Kaur stated that while they made the arrests, the crime scene actually falls under the jurisdiction of the Doraha police. Inspector Akash Dutt of Doraha police has denied these claims, asserting that the spot is not in their territory and that they have received no official communication regarding the transfer of investigation. How the ‘Egg Trap’ WorksPolice often warn drivers about this specific robbery technique. Thrown eggs create a viscous smear on the glass. Using wipers and fluid turns the smear into an opaque milky film, completely blinding the driver. Once the car stops, the criminals move in to rob the occupants.
