Ludhiana: A Khanna man faces criminal charges after a 57-year-old woman died from injuries sustained when his speeding car allegedly struck her auto-rickshaw on Rani Jhansi Road.The woman, Vanti, of Prem Nagar, died at a private hospital on Saturday after a three-day struggle. Following her death, police registered a first-information report (FIR) on Sunday against the driver, identified as Amarinder Singh of Jandali village.The fatal collision occurred on April 22 while Vanti and her sister-in-law, Kanta Devi, were returning home from a market. According to the police complaint, a speeding Hyundai Verna struck their auto-rickshaw from behind with such force that the vehicle overturned. Vanti was thrown from the rickshaw during the impact, suffering severe head trauma. Despite immediate medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries over the weekend.Investigating officer Asees Kumar, a head constable at the Division Number 8 police station, stated that Singh has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 281 for rash driving, Section 125(A) for acts endangering personal safety, and Section 106 for causing death by negligence.Authorities confirmed that while the case has been formally registered, the accused remains at large. Police stated that an arrest is expected shortly.
