Chandigarh: In a journey of healing and new beginnings, two para athletes who met during rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries got married at the centre where they rebuilt their lives.Kumaresan, 32, and Vivekha, 25, are both wheelchair users with spinal cord injuries. Their wedding took place inside the rehabilitation facility in Chandigarh.“We first met in 2016 at CMC Vellore, where we were undergoing rehabilitation. After losing touch, we reconnected in 2025. This time, our relationship grew quickly, and we decided to marry,” said Vivekha. Kumaresan is from Tamil Nadu, while Vivekha comes from Bihar. Kumaresan is a javelin player who has represented India, while Vivekha competes in discus and club throw events. Kumaresan also works as a peer trainer at the Chandigarh rehabilitation centre, helping others adjust to life after spinal injury.“We persuaded our families to support our decision to marry and to hold the ceremony at the centre, which is like home to me. We plan to continue living here and remain part of the rehabilitation community,” said Kumaresan. For them, marriage marks the start of a shared life shaped by resilience, sport and support.
