Imphal: A man accused of attempting to kill his wife died in a road accident while fleeing the scene in Imphal East on Saturday.Police sources said the accused has been identified as Lairenlakpam Bidhu (60).Bidhu allegedly attacked his wife, Ruheni (60), with a sharp weapon suspected to be a knife at their residence around 10am, inflicting serious injuries on her head and hands.The injured woman was rushed to a nearby medical facility. Her condition is said to be critical.Following the assault, the accused fled the spot in his vehicle. However, during his escape, his vehicle reportedly rammed into a truck at Chingarel Tejpur Awang Leikai. He sustained severe injuries in the collision and succumbed.Police rushed to both locations upon receiving information. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem examination.
