Kanpur: Long queues continued outside several gas agencies in Kanpur on Monday, with customers reporting a shortage of LPG cylinders and delays in distribution.Cylinders were being distributed at some spots, but people in queues claimed they had been waiting days with no luck.At Bhagwat Gas Agency near the JK temple, customers lined up on both sides of the road as police managed the crowd. In the afternoon, a cylinder truck arrived, and gas started being doled out. People in the queue said they had been waiting since morning, hoping to finally get some relief. Munawwar, a local who came to collect a cylinder, said he had been coming for four days to get one. He said: “The worst part was customers had to stand in one line for the slip, another for the cylinder… and if they ran out, come back tomorrow.”Another resident, Anand, said he was called on Saturday to collect the cylinder, and that Monday was the third day he stood in line.Outside Kanpur Gas Agency in the Swarup Nagar area, a large crowd gathered while the shutter remained closed. Agency employees stood by the roadside and said the cylinder truck had not arrived, which was why the office was closed.Shivam, a resident, fumed: “I’ve been running around for LPG for 4 days. Booked online, got a confirmation message on Friday, but no delivery. Now a message says ‘Gas delivered’ but no cylinder! It says I can book next on April 10. Where’s my cylinder?”Kafeel, who came to collect a cylinder, said he had been coming for four days, but in vain. The state govt has stepped up monitoring of LPG distributors to ensure that consumers receive cylinders in accordance with their bookings. Authorities are conducting regular reviews of stock positions and keeping a close watch on the availability of refills.
