Bhubaneswar: Most of the residents who have been slapped with notice by BMC to reduce the height of their respective structures are upset, as they believe many structures taller than theirs have been left out. They said mobile towers in the Baramunda area look small in comparison to buildings and apartments as well as the Baramunda bus stand building.“We are surprised to get the notice to lower the height of the mobile tower on the second floor roof of our house. We have allowed installation of the tower of a private telecom company. This looks smaller than many other structures. But we are asked to lower its height,” said Ashok Kumar Sethi, who stays in the Siripur area close to Baramunda. The sky over Baramunda is mostly the approach path of the flights where it gradually descends to land on the runway, close to Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Gandamunda and Pokhariput. While BMC refuted there has been any discrimination in issuing notices, airport director Prasanna Pradhan clarified, “A smaller structure close to the airport can pose to be an obstruction for an aircraft while it is descending.”
